New series reveal!

You voted, and I listened! A couple of months ago, I did a reader questionnaire on Facebook on what series I should write in the second half of 2021. One series idea outshone all the others ... and so that is what you shall be getting!

Book One in the Guardians of Alba series will be out at the end of July 2021. Here’s the series overview:

They will risk everything to protect Scotland from the English—even their hearts.

A coven of Scottish witches have sworn to defend Alba from invaders. Meet three dedicated women who will stop at nothing to protect their homeland—and the men who complicate their mission.

Guardians of Alba takes you back to 14th Century Scotland amidst the Wars of Scottish Independence. Immerse yourself in political intrigue, Celtic mysticism, betrayal, high-adventure, and steamy romance.

So ... if you loved meeting Nessa in DRACO (Book 3: The Immortal Highland Centurions) you're in for a treat ... she's going to be the heroine of Book One!

I have a special announcement about a brand-new series for 2021.

HIGHLANDER DECEIVED, Book One in Stolen Highland Hearts, will be out on January 21, 2021. Set in Medieval Scotland, the series centers on the lives and loves of three siblings of the MacKay clan in the wild north of the Scottish Highlands. The novel is also available on preorder (links below).

HIGHLANDER DECEIVED
Book One: Stolen Highland Hearts

A lie this bold will not stay hidden. He thought he was marrying a chieftain’s daughter—but his young wife isn’t who she seems. Deception and passion collide in Medieval Scotland.

When Kiera Gunn agrees to swap places with her best friend, and wed a man in her stead, she knows life is about to get complicated.

She’s also risking her own future.

But Kiera never wanted to be a nun, and longs for a life outside the nunnery where she’s about to take her vows. Her friend is desperate—and this could be Kiera’s only chance to forge a new path for herself.

The MacKays of Farr have a new chieftain. Connor MacKay is a reluctant husband, yet he’s been betrothed for years.

Now he needs to honor his promise.

The woman he collects from the nunnery is a surprise. She isn’t the great beauty Connor expects, yet her quick wit and passionate nature soon enthrall him.

But his bride keeps a secret that risks more than both their hearts.

Writing update

The Brides of Series is complete! I've been taking a well-earned breather after the release of Book #3, but thought it was time to give you an update about where I'm at with all my writing projects, and what's coming next!
➡️The Brides of Skye is doing really well--thanks to all of you for your support! As such I HAVE to write more Scottish Medievals (you've already been emailing me asking when the next series will be out!).
➡️The next series (coming in early 2020) is The Sisters of Kilbride. This story is set in the same world as The Brides of Skye, and kicks off around a year after The Rogue's Bride ends. The series is about three nuns ... yes that's right ... nuns! Only these women aren't your typical nuns. The abbess of Kilbride Abbey takes an unorthodox approach to her role--she teaches all the nuns how to fight and defend themselves physically should the abbey ever be attacked! As such, these three heroines are not to be messed with! Book #1 centers around a character who appeared in The Rogue's Bride: Gavin MacNichol, a widowed chieftain who has never forgotten the woman he lost his heart to years earlier. The only problem is that his lost love is now a nun ... and is determined never to have her heart broken again!

➡️In the meantime, before I get started on the new series I've got two books to complete! First off the ranks is Path of the Dark, Book #3 in my Epic Fantasy Romance series. I'm around 65% through the first draft. The story's getting quite steamy! I'm really enjoying the developing relationship between the hero and heroine, Elias and Ryana.🔥
➡️Warrior's Secret, Book #2 in The Pict Wars series is waiting patiently for me to return to it. And I will ... just as soon as Path of the Dark is wrapped up. I know those of you who loved Warrior's Heart have been waiting for the sequel--sit tight, it's coming!
➡️Keep updated on my works in progress here:

That's it for now ... two more releases scheduled for this year and a new series for 2020! ðŸ’–

THE BEAST'S BRIDE preview!

It's just four days now till THE BEAST'S BRIDE (Book #1: The Brides of Skye) is unleashed!

To celebrate I'm sharing a preview of the novel. This is a pivotal scene that takes place at the beginning of games that our heroine's father has put on in order to force her to wed. Enjoy!

A summer’s breeze laced with the scent of crushed grass feathered against Rhona’s cheeks. She sat upon the stands before the competition field and waited for the first of the strength games: the tossing of the caber.
Erected out of slabs of pine, the stands rose three tiers high. Much preparation had gone into this day. The MacLeod plaid—a crosshatch of yellow, black, and grey, threaded with red—fluttered from the ring that encircled the competition field.
Excited spectators chattered around Rhona, while crowds of village-folk gathered around the perimeter of the field. She sat in-between her father and Adaira, hands folded upon her lap. Since leaving the tower room, no one besides Adaira had spoken to her. Caitrin hadn’t come to the games, as her infant son had a fever, although Baltair was here. He sat farther along the bench, laughing over something with the man seated next to him.
Baltair had not greeted Rhona, or even acknowledged her—not something that bothered Rhona. But it stung that her father ignored her. Even Una stared right through her.
It was all part of her punishment. Rhona’s fingernails bit into her palms. How she wished she was far from here.
Men, clad only in plaid braies, their naked chests gleaming in the morning sun, walked out onto the field. Rhona’s throat closed at the sight of them.
So many … at least fifty.
Most of the faces she didn’t recognize, however, some she did. A blond, grinning young warrior called Connel, and Dughall MacLean. Of course—she’d known he’d compete.
The latter stood at the front of the group, dark blue eyes riveted upon the stands—upon her. Rhona ignored him. Let him stare, she thought. If he wins the games, I’ll scratch his eyes out on our wedding night.
But Connel and Dughall weren’t the only faces she recognized in the crowd. Rhona’s breathing stilled when she saw a big, broad-shouldered figure with short dark-blond hair and a scarred face standing at the back of the group.
Taran MacKinnon.
Confusion swept over Rhona, muddling her thoughts for a few moments. Connel and Dughall she understood, for both of them had made their interest in her clear.
But Taran?
Betrayal followed swiftly on the heels of confusion. She’d been furious with Taran for dragging her back to Dunvegan, yet she’d believed he’d had some sympathy for her plight. What was he doing competing for her hand?
Rhona clenched her jaw till it ached. She glared at Taran, willing him to meet her gaze, yet he did not. Instead, his ice-blue stare seemed unfocused, as if he was deep in thought.
Beside her Malcolm MacLeod rose to his feet. The chatter in the stands quietened, and the crowd of warriors waiting below shifted their gazes to the clan-chief.
“Welcome.” Her father’s voice carried across the field. “For some of ye, Dunvegan is yer home, while for others ye have traveled far to reach us. I greet ye all and thank ye for doing us this honor.”
A few of the warriors below cheered at this, while others beamed up at MacLeod. Malcolm then turned to where Rhona sat silently next to him. “Daughter, stand up.”
Rhona complied, hands still clasped before her. Dozens of hungry male gazes raked over her. She felt as if they were stripping her clothing from her. Rhona raised her chin, barely suffering the indignity.
“Aye.” Her father’s voice held a smug note as he continued. “Lady Rhona MacLeod is a fiery beauty. She’ll make one of ye a fine bride and bear ye plenty of sons … but ye will have to fight for her. The motto of this family is ‘Hold Fast’. The MacLeods face-down our enemies without fear, and we charge toward our destinies. I encourage all of ye to do the same.”
A cheer went up, and when it died away, all gazes fixed upon Malcolm MacLeod, awaiting his next words. Tension rose around them, and Rhona saw the excitement in the contestants’ eyes, their eager smiles. The sight just made Rhona feel ill.
Her father’s command, when it came, fell like an executioner’s axe, splitting the silence. “Let the games begin.”

WARRIOR'S HEART is available on preorder! The release date is January 22, 2019. This new series is the follow-up to my WARRIOR BROTHERS OF SKYE series, set in 4th Century Isle of Skye. We return to the isle twenty years late and follow the lives and loves of Galan, Tarl, and Donnel's offspring.

When Varar takes the only enemy survivor of a violent skirmish prisoner, he intends to use Fina as a weapon to keep his enemies in check. LORD OF THE NORTH WIND is available!

LORD OF THE NORTH WIND is now available! It's been a great launch so far, and readers are loving Aldfrith, my Philosopher King.

For those of you with Amazon Prime subscriptions who have been patiently waiting ... LORD OF THE NORTH WIND is now in Kindle Unlimited!

Aldfrith's character was modeled a real historical figure: King Aldfrith of Northumbria.

Here's what readers are saying about the book so far!

"I loved the realistic and engaging characters and the angsts of the passion and once in a life time love, that politically can never be." ★★★★★

"King Aldfrith, different as he is from most heroes I read, will stick with me for a while. I think I have a new favorite hero archetype - the philosopher king." ★★★★★

Intrigued?

Here's a snippet (one of my favorite scenes!) from the book for you to enjoy

***

“I'm sorry, milord.” Osana took another hasty step backwards. “I was taking a walk. I didn’t mean to intrude.”

His dark blue gaze remained upon her for a long moment, before his mouth quirked. “You aren’t intruding.”

Osana gave a hurried curtsey and backed off farther. “I bid you good morning, sire.”

She turned to flee, still clutching the half-eaten apple. His voice, faintly tinged with amusement, stilled her. “It’s Osana, isn’t it?”

She turned back, her face warming under his scrutiny. “Aye … Raedwulf of Hagustaldes is my husband.”

He nodded. “I noticed you at the feast last night.”

He said those words without the slightest flirtation, yet Osana’s cheeks grew hotter still at that. What was wrong with her? She never blushed. He had caught her watching him at the feast. She had been observing him, thinking his attention was elsewhere, when his gaze had snapped up, ensnaring hers. She felt mortified now, as she had at the time.

One did not stare at the king—he would think her common and far too bold.

But when she forced herself to meet his eye, she saw that the king did not appear offended or disdainful.

Instead, he was watching her with cool interest. A moment later his gaze dropped to the apple she still clutched. “I didn’t think they were ripe enough yet. Was it a good apple?”

Now he’ll think me a thief.

New project: THE PICT WARS series

Now that THE WARRIOR BROTHERS OF SKYE series is complete (the box-set is available too!), I'm now immersed in the next series: THE PICT WARS.

We're still in 4th Century Isle of Skye, but this series starts twenty years after the last series ends. These are stories of Galan, Tarl, and Donnel's children. We start with Fina, who is Tarl and Lucrezia's daughter, and Varar (who's the Boar chieftain's son). This is an enemies to lovers story—with a bad boy in need of redemption. Check out the sexy cover ...with a smoldering Varar! You can see he's a bad boy. ;-)

Here's what the first book in the series, WARRIOR'S HEART is about...

THE PICT WARS—BOOK #1

WARRIOR'S HEART

WAR BRINGS THEM TOGETHER. BUT WILL IT ALSO TEAR THEM APART?

Fina is a fierce Pict warrior of The Eagle tribe upon Dark Ages Isle of Skye. Strong-willed and lethal with a knife or a long-bow, she kneels to no man ... until the day she falls in battle and finds herself captive of the enemy.

Varar mac Urcal is the ruthless chieftain of The Boar tribe. Although his father had held the peace with the neighboring tribe, relations have swiftly deteriorated since his death. When Varar takes the only enemy survivor of a violent skirmish prisoner, he intends to use Fina as a weapon to keep his enemies in check. Only, his strong attraction to his fiery captive risks complicating his ambitions.

But the conflict between the two tribes isn't the only threat to peace. When a group of invaders cross from the mainland intent on taking The Winged Isle as their own, the four tribes of the island must make a decision. Do they continue their feuding and risk annihilation, or do they band together against the invaders?

Fina and Varar must also make a choice. Love or hate—they have to decide.

BATTLE EAGLE (Book #3: The Warrior Brothers of Skye) is just 10 days away from release date: May 31, 2018.

He grieves for the loss of his wife, she grieves for the loss of her innocence. An epic tale set in Dark Ages Scotland about the healing and redemptive power of love.

Eithni believes herself too damaged to ever find love, and Donnel vows he will never love again. Can they find their way out of the darkness together?

A healer upon Dark Ages Isle of Skye, Eithni enjoys her life with the tribe of The Eagle. However, the scars of the past—and harrowing memories of the man who stole her innocence—make it impossible for her to find happiness.

The 'Battle Eagle', Donnel, is a warrior of renown. Only bitterness has soured his character. He lost his wife in childbirth and now can't even bear to look at his son. The infant is a reminder of the woman he loved and lost. These days Donnel is intent on wreaking vengence upon the world.

Although cowed by his anger, Eithni challenges Donnel about his bitterness. She's determined to bring father and son together—even if he rejects her help. Scottish folklore: the Bean-Nighe

Have you ever heard of the Bean-Nighe—the washer woman?

This fairy—a ghastly old woman that belonged to ancient Scottish folklore—could be found by streams and pools. She was an omen of death, as she washed the clothes of those who were about to die.

In BATTLE EAGLE I use an eerie song about the Bean-Nighe I'd like to share with you here:

Tell me, haggard washer woman,
Whose clothes are washed this day?
I see the cloak of a chieftain
Within your basket, lay.
And is this wife to lose her man,
My heart to be forfeit?
And shall the banshee sing tonight,
To wail his lament?

The sky weeps with blackened clouds,
And spills its rain of tears,
The wind howls through the glen,
To warn The Reaper is near,
The old broch looks forlorn,
As darkness drapes its veil,
I wash my husband’s finest clothes,
That he may die well.

Tell me, haggard washer woman,
Whose clothes are washed this day?
I see a skirt that once was mine,
Within your basket, lay.
And can you wash it free of blood,
To cleanse my blackened soul?
And shall you say a charm for me,
Above my cold barrow?
